Do you want to experience a winter holiday as never before? You are looking for uncrowded ski runs, you don’t want to queue at the lifts and all that for a reasonable price? Then you are in the right place in Slovenia. Here one finds lots of attractive skiing areas, snowy winters and pure air and a breathtaking beautiful nature, ensuring a felicitous holiday.

 

Skiing Areas in Slovenia Leave Nothing to Be Desired...

There are unnumbered skiing areas with ski lifts in Slovenia. The most popular regions amongst those are Kranjska Gora, where they carry out alpine world cups, and Mariborsko Pohorje, where the annual women ski run „Zlata lisica“ takes place. The highest ski region I sthat on Mount Kanin, providing snow until late springtime. Other popular skiing areas are Krvavec, located near Ljubljana, the Rogla on Zreško Pohorje and Golte above Mozirje. The most modern ‘family ski area’ of Slovenia is Cerkno.

At the larger ski resorts you’ll even find slopes for ski tours, sleds, snowboards and cross country skiing. Cross country ski runs are also found at some lake and alpine plateaus like on Pokljuka, holding international biathlon championships, or at Bloška planota, the cradle of the historic populace skiing with one of the oldest ski runs of Europe. More cross country ski runs are to be found in the valeey of Logarska dolina and at most tourism centers.

On top of skiing, there’s still more wintertime enjoyments on offer: snowmobile tours at Kranjska Gora, on Mount Pohorje, Mount Pokljuka and on Mount Krvavec. On top of that, in some places you will find dog sled or sleigh tours available. And there are quite a lot of toboggan runs in Slovenia even outside the skiing centers. Very attractive sled rides on snowy roads and mountain passes (Vršic, Mangart), which are closed for traffic during wintertime, are on offer by experienced sport agencies. There is an “Adrenalin Park” on Pohorje, allowing sled rides even in summertime.

Kranjska Gora, the Most Popular and Largest Center for Winter Sports in Slovenia...

This internationally renowned tourist sport center on the fringes of the Triglav National Park is located at an altitude of 810 metres in the corner neighboring Austria and Italy. Kranjska Gora is well known for its alpine world cup championships and the nearby giant ski-jump of Planica.

5 chair lifts and 15 drag lifts are sending skiers into the superb mountainsides of the Vitranc. There are about 30 kilometres of easy to medium pistes, partially artificially snowed, partially even illuminated. You’ll find skiing and snowbord schools, guided skiing tours, ice climbing lessons, snowmobile trips and of course over 40 kilometres of cross country ski runs. Necessary equipment can be hired.

Maribor-Pohorje, Only Half an Hour to Graz in Austria...

30 pistes of all difficulty levels are available from 325 metres upto 1,347 metres of altitude. There are 5 drag lifts starting directly at the cable car station. Further 5 lifts are serviced near the settlement of Areh. There are 60 kilometres of pistes, partially floodlit at night. Cross country skiers find 25 kilometres of runs guiding through magical winter wonderland. As in all Slovenian skiing centers, you’ll find an excellent infrastructure.

Rogla – Paradise of Winter Sports...

The idyllic region of the Zresko Pohorje at 1,517 m altitude is the home of the skiing area Rogla, always guaranteeing a white snow cover during wintertime. Skiers, snowboarders and cross country skiers are awaited by well prepared pistes of all difficulty levels and other recreational offers for relaxation and amusement.

The ski center of Rogla secures skiing at its best – a large number of highly pleased regular guests argue for this paradise of winter sports. Rogla with its well prepared ski runs with natural and artificial snow is offering fun and enjoyment for beginners and experts, for recreational and competitive athletes - on at least 100 skiing days from late autumn to springtime. There are 100 hectares of ski pistes with 11 drag lifts, 2 foursome chair lifts and kilometres of cross country runs at your leisure.

It’s understood, you find a ski school, a ski kindergarten and the complete infrastructure of a   favourite winter sports resort.

Find Three Top Pistes at a Time at Bohinj Closeby Bled at the Lake...

There are three interesting Skiing areas around the lake of Bohinj: Mount Vogel, Mount Kobla and Soriska Planina.

The area of Mount Vogel stretches from 570 to 1,800 metres of altitude, offering a cable car, 4 chair lifts, 4 drag lifts and 18 kilometres of well prepared pistes, plus about 8 kilometres of cross country ski runs, a halfpipe and flood light.

The area of Mount Kobla lies at 540 to 1480 metres altitude with 3 chair lifts, 23 kilometres of pistes, 13 kilometres of cross country runs and a fantastic toboggan run.

The third area, Soriska Planina, lies at 1,300 to 1,550 metres altitude, offering 3 drag lifts, 6 kilometres of ski pistes, 6 kilometres of cross country runs and a toboggan run too.

Mount Kanin – The Highest Ski Region Near Bovec...

Mount Kanin, west of Bovec at the Soca, reaches up to 2,600 metres. It is the only skiing area in Slovenia, which pistes are over 2,000 metres above sea level and thus mostly assuring snow – the season endures from Decembre to the end of April. Due to its tremendous altitude, there is no icing on its ski runs, providing eventful skiing on dry snow.

From the slopes you have a panoramic view from the Alps to the Adriatic. This region is an ideal starting point for short trips to ski resorts in Italy (Tarvisio) ans Austria (Arnoldstein).
