Winter Sports in Slovenia...

There are unnumbered skiing areas with ski lifts in Slovenia. The most popular regions amongst those are Kranjska Gora, where alpine world cups are carried out, and Mariborsko Pohorje, where the annual women ski run „Zlata lisica“ takes place. The highest ski region is that on the Kanin, providing snow until late springtime. Other popular skiing areas are Krvavec, located near Ljubljana, the Rogla on the Zreško Pohorje and Golte above Mozirje. The most modern ‘family ski area’ of Slovenia is Cerkno.
At the larger ski resorts you’ll even find slopes for ski tours, sleds, snowboards and cross country skiing. Cross country ski runs are also found at some lake and alpine plateaus like on Pokljuka, holding international biathlon championships, or at Bloška planota, the cradle of the historic populace skiing with one of the oldest ski runs of Europe. More cross country ski runs are to be found in the valley of Logarska dolina and at most tourism centers.
On top of skiing, there’s still more wintertime enjoyments on offer: snowmobile tours at Kranjska Gora, on the Pohorje, the Pokljuka and on the Krvavec. On top of that, in some places you will find dog sled or sleigh tours taht are available. And there are quite a lot of toboggan runs in Slovenia even outside the skiing centers. Very attractive sled rides on snowy roads and mountain passes (Vršic, Mangart), which are closed for traffic during wintertime, are on offer by experienced sport agencies. There is an “Adrenalin Park” on the Pohorje, allowing sled rides even in summertime.
