Savica, Waterfall

The waterfall of Savica ist he most famous and popular waterfall of Bohinj. Even the most significant poet of Slovenia, France Prešeren, has written a poem called Christening at the Savica Falls. Nearby there is a marble monument of the Archduke Johannes, set up by the Baron Sigismund Žiga Zois in commemoration of the archduke’s visit in 1807. The waterfall is located in the outmoist corner of Bohinj. It measures 78 m, though the height is altering with the amount of rainfall. There are stages to access the waterfall – this way it’ll take about 30 minutes. Then there’s a steep track to the source in the Komarca wall, which is not recommended for kids and untrained hikers (duration 45 min.).

One can reach the parking place afoot on the way over Savica Bridge, starting at the Hotel Zlatorog - a march of one hour. In summer months fees for parking and entrance to the waterfall are charged, but a visitation is possibly for the whole year. The march to the waterfall is exhausting, but it’s worth it. The waters of the savica are rushing over the rocks in a drone, filling the Wocheiner Lake, splattering the spray for metres.
