Piran, Tartini Memorial-Room

- Picture: J. Skok
This house is one of oldest in the first row of buildings encircling the main place. City documents of 1384 mention the gothic building of “Casa Pizagrua“; but later on the exterior was rearranged in a neoclassicism style. It is the birthplace of the violinist Giuseppe Tartini. During its last restoration (1985-91) they discovered some very interesting mural paintings. The building is now seat of the Italian community organising cultural events, exhibitions and art workshops.
On the first floor there is a memorial room for Tartini with some objects of his inheritance bequeathed to his family. Most interesting memorabilia are his death mask, the violin of the master, his line drawer, a copper cut with interpretations of Tartinis dreams and a portrait on canvas. Amongst some handwritten documents is a remarquable letter to his disciple Maddalena Lombardini, explaining the rules and techniques of handling the violin bow.
