Ljubljana: Town Hall & Robba Fountain Slovenia

Ljubljana: Town Hall & Robba Fountain

The original building, built in 1484, has undergone complete reconstruction in 1718, according plans of the architect Gregor Macek. It houses numerous monuments of Ljubljana’s history, amongst others a statue of Hercules and the Narcis Fountain of Robba’s studios. In the 16th and 17th century there were primal theater performances by itinerant comedians taking place in the gothic hall.

Today it is the seat of the city parliament. In front of the town hall is one of the most prestigious monuments of Slovenia, the fountain of the Krain rivers (three dolphins and water men representing the rivers Save, Krka and Ljubljanica), created in 1751 by Francesco Robba, the grand master of Ljubljana’s sculptor studios of the first half of the 18th century.
