This building has been constructed in 1896 according the plans of F. Škabront. Originally it was used for events of different national associations and had a gym hall at ground floor. In 1918 it was refurnished as the national gallery keeping and exhibiting its collections of Slovenian art from the Middle Ages to the 19th century. South of the national gallery, you’ll find the modern gallery, Ljubljana’s museum of modern art. Alternating exhibitions of contemporary artists are shown at this museum. In addition there are multiple smaller and larger galleries, showing excellent temporary exhibitions.
