Ljubljana: Bishop’s Palace and Cathedral

The bishop’s palace is located right next to the cathedral and is home of the Slovenian metropolitains nowadays. Originally a renaissance building, it was „barroquised„ later on. Here you’ll find the most beautiful arcade courtyard, still well-preserved. Construction started in 1512, but in the middle of 17th century, a structural level was added. At the end of the 18th century, the front was rearranged to its current braided style and an alleyway to the cathedral has been built. The later Emperor Napoleon is said to have spent several nights here, but the palace has also been inhabited by the gouvenors of the Illyrian provinces, like L. Bernadotte, Marmont and others.
