Izola, Most Idyllic Old Town of the Slovenian Coast...

The coastal town of Izola is well worth a visit. The particular architecture of the old town narrates of a moving history of the town, which once lay on an island. The tradition of fishery is part of the touristic and culinary offers of Izola. Betake yourself on one of the unnumbered promenades and get to know the surroundings of Izola. The ancient part of the viilage is located on that former island, which has already been populated in the first century and later was linked with the mainland by a stone bridge. The city wall, which encircled the island, was torn off at the beginning of the 19th century, to fill the gap between isle and land. At the beginning of the 13th century, the island declared its independence and became a city with own legislation and government.
