Slovenia is located at a crossing point of the Mediterranean, the Alps, the Pannonian Basin and the Dinaric mountainside. All this variety of landscapes and multiple panoramic views are placed in close distance that can be covered by bicycle. Slovenia offers prepared tracks for shorter and longer cycle tours at all levels of difficulty – cycle maps are helpful and are available at local tourism organisations and centres of information troughout the country.
Slovenia offers tours for street bikes passing through natural parks, the environment of the spas, other interesting countryside regions and on many local circular cycle paths. These are supplemented by centres of mountain biking, as in the region of Koroška, where they have a mountain bike park, and at the bicycle village on Mount Pohorje. Those looking for new challenges, might like to cross the galleries of an abandonned lead mine to discover the underworld of Peca. Enthusiasts for might even cross the border to Austria, using the ferry boat to crossi River Mura. There’s the start of the Slovenian part of the project Euro-Velo, linking the Baltic region with the Adriatic. Many cycle tours can be combined with train rides; along the longer runs you will find accommodation, bicycle garages and guides. Slovenia even offers a couple of tournaments, particularly interesting are the annual race Juriš on the Vršič Pass, ascending on serpentines the highest mountain pass of Slovenia and the 3 country cross and mountain biking in Kranjska Gora, multiple cycle marathons and traditional ascents to the different peaks.
