Cerknica, World’s Largest Percolating Lake...

The Cerknica Lake (Cerknicko jezero) southwest of Postojna is the largest lake of Slovenia and the largest percolating lake of the world. Twice a year, iits water is oozing almost completely, turning the lake into swampland during summertime. This natural phenomenon has already puzzled the greek historian Strabo in the 1st century B.C. Having water however, it allows boat trips, swimming and fishing. Mount Slivnica is offering th emost beautiful view at the lake. Being known as the ancestral seat of whitches at Valvascor’s time, nowadays it’s popular for rock climbing, hang- and paragliding.
