Bled at the lake

Located in front of a picturesque scenery of the Alps and in the middle of a mountain lake you’ll find Slovenia’s one and only island. With its unique charm, this island is a symbol for a place that is existent for over 1,000 years: Bled at the lake. A long time ago, the Slovenian forefathers worshipped Živa, an ancient Slavic goddess of love and fertility on this island. Later pilgrim came to the island to pray to Holy Mary.
The name of Bled firstly appeared a century ago, at April, 10th of 1004. The place was donated to the bishop of Brixen by the holy german Emperor Heinrich II. Already at the end of the 20th century, it was the most beautiful health resort of the empire of that time. And still it is attracting visitors from all over the world, with its promenades and carriage ways around the lake, with traditional boat trips and the peal of bells.
