The Arboretum of Volcji Potok is a collection of living woods for scientific means; it’s the leading facility of this kind in Slovenia. The Arboretum was founded in 1952 on the grounds of the family Souvan. The former owners had purchased the estate in 1882 and created a magnificent park around its castle. Unfortunately the baroque building has been destroyed in 1944.

The main acitivities of the Arboretum consists in the maintenance of the park and the plant collections, the cultivation of new plants in nurserys, the service of a graden centre as well as landscape architecture and gardening. During the last years, the park became internationally well renowned for its spring flower exhibitions. Within the park, right next to the gallery of the artist Janez Boljka, there is a café, opened however at nice weather.
